On 11th May, the Kimunyong Sport Committee (KUYSC) held a signing ceremony at the Los Angeles Anaheim City Hall Centre to establish its 9th overseas branch in California, U.S. The signing ceremony was attended by approximately 200 persons, including KUYSC officials, New York, Los Angeles and San Diego taekwondo leaders, Mooto USA representative James Kim and journalists.
The new California branch manager Arnold Chung stated, “we are honoured to establish the California branch of the Kimunyong Sport Committee. We will remember the achievements of Dr. Kim Un-yong and work closely with the KUYSC to develop and globalise US taekwondo.” In addition, he stated that “next year, we will hold the 2020 Kimunyong California International Open Taekwondo Competition in Los Angeles that is more advanced than any other taekwondo championship in the U.S., contributing to globalisation of taekwondo.”
KUYSC secretary-general Seo Hyun-suk stated, “we are pleased to establish the second US branch of the KUYSC in Los Angeles, where there is great passion for taekwondo. We will continue to expand our overseas network by establishing overseas branches. We will also establish domestic branches and work together to foster global talents through our taekwondo championships and taekwondo education.”
At the same time, this signing ceremony coincided with the evaluations for black-belt and poom holders and provided taekwondo trainees with a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the legacy of Dr. Kim Un-yong, the founder of the Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo who developed taekwondo into an Olympic sport.
